Fender Japan Jaguar, crafted in Japan 1996, candy apple red. You really can’t go wrong with a candy apple Jag, it’s got to be one of the most instantly appealing offerings Fender have ever dreamt up. This one hails from the transitory period between ‘made in Japan’ and ‘Crafted in Japan’ eras; so it’s got a good 22+ years on the clock. The finish looks all the better for a few scars and some play-wear; these don’t look quite right when they’re too pristine. The piece of maple on the neck has some pretty circular grain up near the body join; it’s a sweet piece and feels great in the hands. Between the slim neck, short scale and perfectly weighted offset body, this is an absolute breeze to play. The tone is classic Jag: all jangle, sparkly spanky attack, short sustain and a snappy midrage; perfect for smattering with gain and effects. It’s Jag-tastic, basically.

The sides have a few minor marks; a nick on the top horn, two small chips and a scuff in the shoulder area and four little chips dotted between the rear strap pin and around from the knobs.
