Brian by Bacchus Fretless JB-Style Teal 1998

Brian by Bacchus Jazz Bass, made in Korea late 90s,teal finish. Surely in all of guitar history, no brand name as ever been as simultaneously daggy and awesome as ‘Brian’. Bacchus guitars enjoy a famed reputation for exceptional craftsmanship, attention to detail and wood selection in Japan, so much so that they really haven’t bothered marketing their excellent offerings internationally. Brian was Bacchus’ first shot at manufacturing outside of Japan, and were made very briefly in the late 90s in Korea. This one has ben converted to fretless by our local ninja luthier; as always he’s done a stellar job so the work is top notch. The neck feels great in the hands; it’s silky smooth with a satin finish that’s perfect on both the back and the board. The tone is great: heaps of bark and snap, all with that rounded and charismatic fretless attack. The deep oceanic teal finish looks awesome; combined with the yellowed white pearl guard and tasty golden maple headstock, this looks super classy. This is a weird one, but weird in all the funnest ways; it’s like that friend at a party who somehow manages to get everyone dancing in kitchen to 90s power ballads. Thanks Brian, you’re a legend.

Cosmetic condition notes: mild finish wear. There’s a couple of minor marks on the end and bottom edge of the headstock. The neck is pretty clean and very smooth with minor dimples only. The back has some dimples and scuffs along the body carve and bottom edge, a chip near the neck plate and some widespread light light scratches and scuffs. The sides have no major marks, but there are minor dimples extending around the whole body. The front is pretty clean, just some dimples on the shoulder and around the jack and some play wear on the guard and top horn. \ Overall: good condition (7/10)

Playing conditionnotes: action is low, neck is straight, intonation is good, truss rod works. All electrics tested and working properly. No frets, so no wear to mention. Set up with fresh 45/105 Moonshiners strings.
