Squier SST33 Silver Series Strat, made in Japan in 1993/4 in blueburst ‘Foto Flame’ finish. TheSilver Seriesheralded a return to Japanese manufacturing for Squier, and were very well received at the time owing to theexcellent build quality from the legendary Fujigen factory. The finish is a photograph of some highly flamed maple printed onto a photographic film and wrapped around the body, an internet-renowned 90s-era Fender oddity. The wrap has now cracked, revealing it’s true nature… there’s a certain kitsch charm about it, especially now that the real body is peeking through.Unlike other Foto Flame guitars, the neck on this is finished in natural satin, so that feels brilliantly smooth in the hands. Tone-wise, this has plenty of classic Strat-spank on tap; it’s a great sounding guitar that’ll rival many expensive options out there for tone and feel. If you’re after a quirky little Strat that’s a great player and doesn’t take itself too seriously, this might be your new mate.
